Each year, scholarships are given to two emerging artists under 30. At left are Natalie Ball and Maggie Casey, the 2008 Kimberly Gales Scholarship winners. You can read about Natalie, Maggie, and past scholarship winners here. Participating artists and scholarship winners are selected by a panel of three independent artists and arts administrators. The 2008 jurors were Evelyn Diamond, Tom Prochaska, and Arvy Smith. |
At right is work by Susan Greenbaum, the featured artist of the week. Portland Open Studios offers artists in the Portland metro area opportunities to showcase their work, engage a curious public, and network with other artists, all within a supportive environment. It's a unique educational organization that serves the community and helps artists meet their professional goals through workshops, publicity, exhibitions, and the open studios tour. A volunteer board works all year to produce the event, now in its 10th year. The board continues to look for new opportunities to better serve our artists and the community. Artists, subscribe to the Call to Artists list if you would like to receive a reminder as the next application deadline approaches (March 15, 2009). |
