Chris Wagner is awarded the Kimberly Gales Scholarship for Emerging Artists. Sculptor Chris Wagner reaches into his dreams and meditations in the search for inspiration, then uses found wood to carve the figures. What is then revealed is the history of the wood in a new light in addition to the mysterious and emotive internal processes that created the original vision. Using pig intestine as a material has created a similarly raw and aged impression in recent work.

Wagner moved to Portland in the summer of 2010 and has exhibited in Portland, Seattle, and Vashon since then, including a solo show. He moved here soon after completing his MFA at Edinboro University in Pennsylvania, showing widely in the Midwest as he completed his studies.

Statement
I am a sculptor originally from Kentucky but have now made my home in Portland. My figurative sculpture is carved from driftwood and other reconstituted materials. The subject matter for my art is drawn initially from my subconscious utilizing imagery from dreams and meditations.
