Photoshop tips
- Complete application.
- Upload 3 images.
- Send by mail 2 checks payable to Portland Open Studios. $25 to cover your application fee and $135 for participation. If you opt out of the volunteer component please make your participation check $285. Please write the applicant name and id# in the "Memo" line on your check.
- Send by mail a map with your location marked.
- Send by mail a sheet of paper with applicant name, studio address and ID number. If your check uses a business name rather than your sir name, please include it on the paper.
- Save response email with directions and password for accessing your file.

Need to Hand Deliver Your Application Fees? Portland Open studios will have a booth at the Guild Fair at
the Museum of Contemporary Crafts on Saturday between 11 am to 5 pm. Please give your checks (in an envelope)
to Bonnie at the Portland Open Studios table in the Community Room on the 2nd floor. 724 NW Davis, between
NW Broadway and Park.

NEW OPTION: Artists can choose to be open both weekends
Mark "Yes" in the check box on the application if you are willing to be open both weekends. The Tour Guide will still be arranged by east and west but special symbols will be used to indicate which artists will be open both weekends.
ELIGIBILITY
- Location of the Studios
- *Portland, Milwaukie, Oak Grove, Gladstone, Happy Valley, Tigard, Tualatin, Beaverton, Aloha, Lake Oswego, and West Linn.
Studios are limited to the above areas to best serve our visitors and participating artists.
- Individual Artists
- Application is by individual artist and not by studio. Artists who share one studio space must apply separately.
- Artists At Work
- We advertise that we are artists at work. Visitors expect to see artists showing some part of their process.
- Volunteer Hours
- Artists are asked to volunteer at least 8 hours of time. We are a volunteer organization and depend on the expertise of the member artists.

- NEW: You have the option of not volunteering for an additional fee of $150.
- Email
- You must have an email account. Information about distribution of materials (Tour Guides, signs, etc.); volunteer jobs; and exhibition opportunities are made by email. If you do not currently have one, you can get a free Yahoo or Hotmail account at any library. To keep a Yahoo or Hotmail active you must use it regularly or it becomes inactive.
- Quality of Artwork
- Artists submit 3 images to a jury of art professionals. Please submit images of original works and not prints of originals.
FEES
The fee is $160, $135 for participation and $25 to apply plus 8 hours of volunteer time. If you chose not to volunteer there is an additional fee of $150 payable at time of application.
Portland Open Studios is a non-profit organization, run by participating artists and community members. We rely on artists to market the event and volunteer a minimum of 8 hours of time. Choose 3 tasks that fit your talents and interests.

For your fee you will receive:
- Participation in the tour
- Color image and contact info in the Tour Guide
- Image and link on the website
- Workshops
- Signage
- An extensive publicity program
- 5 Tour Guides. (You can sell the Tour Guides for $15 each, which makes the fee a very good value or give them to your patrons and clients, which is an even better value.
We take no commission on sales of your work like many other events do.
If you are not accepted your $135 or $285 check,
whichever is applicable will be returned to you.
BENEFITS

- Your artwork will be published in the Tour Guide and on the website.
- Portland Open Studios will link to your website
- Two workshops are offered to provide participating artists with tools and techniques for hosting a fun and profitable studio tour. Participants also are encouraged to build a network of fellow artists. Attendance at the workshops is strongly encouraged.
- More than just two weekends a year. The Tour Guide is a reference book with your artwork and contact information that is used by the media, curators, and art buyers all year long. Artists may get invited to exhibitions, get written about, teach classes and sell their work because of Portland Open Studios.
DIRECTIONS FOR FILLING OUT THE APPLICATION

You must have a valid email to apply
After you fill out the application you will be sent an email to verify that you have applied. In that email will be a password and username to enable you to edit your information and to upload your images. You submit your images after you have submitted the text portion of the application. You can go back to the page anytime before March 15 to add or delete images.
If you forget to answer on of the questions in the questionnaire a dialogue box will ask you for the needed information before you can submit.
Addresses: This information will be used in the Tour Guide.
Please use this postal format for consistency.
- Use SW, N, NE, SE with no periods
- Use no periods after Ave, St or other street names
- Write concise, simple directions to your studio from a major street.
- Use LT for left and RT for right.
- Fill in nearest cross street.
- Phone number format: 503-123-1234
Examples:
- East on SE Hawthorne Blvd, LT on SE 45 Ave, RT on SE Salmon St. Cross street SE 45
- North on I-5, Lombard WEST exit, RT on McKenna to orange house
- You submit images after you submit the text part of the application. You can go back to your file to add or change images anytime until March 15. You will receive an email after you submit the text portion of your application with directions for accessing your information.
- Upload 3 RGB images saved in .jpg format.
- Files should be at least 800 pixels by 800 pixels. Larger files will automatically be resized to fit in an 800 by 800 screen. Artists using Zapplication for other competitions can send the same file.
- You do not have to name your image it will be named automatically with the title you typed into the application.
- Images can not be over 4 Megabytes
- PLEASE DO NOT USE ANY COMMAS IN THE NAME OF THE FILE
- *#1 should be the artwork you want to use for the Tour Guide.

- To make sure you get proper credit for your application and check, please include a sheet of paper with the name on the application and the check with the studio address. This is especially important if your check has a name different from the applicant name

Specs for High Resolution images for Tour Guide
(you will be told where to send image in the acceptance letter)
After acceptance you will be required to send a high resolution image of image #1 to be used for the Tour Guide and for publicity purposes.
- FILE FORMAT: RGB color mode, JPEG with maximum quality #10, If you are putting it on a CD you can use CMYK color mode,but not in an email
- PIXEL DIMENSIONS: The largest dimension should be as close to 1500 pixels as possible but no larger.
- FILE SIZE: This should be about 5 mg or more when open. It will be smaller when closed but sill at least 1 mg or more.
note 1: Please do not enlarge a small file. it will degrade the image and not reproduce well in print. You can make a large file smaller.
note 2: If you have used this image for Zapplication, make a copy and crop off the black edges before you resize to 1500.
note 3: If you are taking the pictures yourself, please use the best setting on your camera.
- Make sure that you have cookies enabled.
- You can apply for the text section of the application and upload images at the same time or upload them later.
- After you edit your application. Refresh your screen
